Away from it all

Away from the dust and the fume-laden air.
Away from the crowds and the din and the blare.
Away to the country, the fields and the trees –
To the smell of the earth and the health-giving breeze.

Away from the treadmills of daily routines –
The noise of the traffic, the roar of machines…
Away to the sea, to the cliffs and the caves –
To the sand and the rocks and the song of the waves.

Away from the news: strikes and strife and unrest –
To the quiet of a place where the soul can be blessed –
To somewhere unspoilt where the tired eyes can see –
This beautiful world as God meant it to be.
